Austin Semiconductor Industry Funding

Federal CHIPS Act funds and Texas’ own Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) are flowing into the region, backing expansions by:

  • Silicon Labs ($23.25M TSIF for new R&D HQ)

  • SpaceX ($17.3M TSIF for chip packaging facility in Bastrop)

  • UT Austin’s TIE Center ($552M for research and workforce training)

Local colleges are stepping up too. UT has launched a new master’s program in semiconductor engineering, and Austin Community College received a $7.5M DARPA grant to train fab technicians.
